A day in the life of an elephant volunteer
Your days on the elephant volunteer project in Sri Lanka will be fulfilling and enjoyable – from elephant handling, learning about elephant anatomy and body language, your mahout training, working in the eco farm and with the children. A typical day with us will go something like this:
| Time | Activity |
| 7am | An early start but what a way to start the day! You will head to wake your elephant, clean the bed and bring him or her down to the river. |
| 7:30am | Elephant bath time plus an arm work out for you! Using coconut shell you’ll scrub your elephant from top to bottom whilst looking out for any health issues and treating if needed |
| 8am | Preparation of day bed and food |
| 8:30am | Time for a well earned breakfast |
| 9-12pm | Health check time for the elephants and working on the eco farm - gathering eggs and vegatables. An education session – either presentations on elephant body language, health signs etc or working with your mahout and elephant for mahout training. There will also be time to prepare for teaching. |
| 12:30pm | Lunch |
| 2-5pm | Tueday - Thursday visit a disadvantaged children's centre to teach plus playing games and sports. Monday and Friday mahout training |
| 5pm | Finish for the day |
| 6:30pm | Dinner |
| Volunteers work Monday to Friday, weekends you are free to do as you wish. See our Weekend Activites page. |
On a weekly basis there will also be an all volunteer meeting to welcome new volunteers, discuss aspects of the project and plan weekend outings.
